  • Cookies
  • 1 1/2 sticks (12 Tbsp) butter, softened

  • 3/4 C sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 egg

  • 2 1/2 C flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • Icing
  • 2-3 C powdered sugar

  • 1/4 C milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • Pink or Red gel food coloring

  • Cookies
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine butter, sugar, and vanilla. Mix well with a hand mixer for 2-3 minutes. Add egg, and mix for another minute.
  • Add flour, baking powder and salt. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporate, about 2 minutes.
  • Scrape down the bowl, and mix with hands. Divide dough in half. Place on a floured piece of parchment paper or silicone mat. With a rolling pin, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a heart shaped cookie cutter (or whatever shape you want!), cut, and with a small spatula transfer the cut dough to the prepared pan. Continue to combine leftover dough, roll out and cut dough until all dough is used.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, watching closely so cookies don’t brown. Remove from oven and cool completely.
  • Icing
  • Combine the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla – add more powdered sugar or milk to get to a consistency where it coats the back of a spoon.
  • Working with one cookie at a time, cover with icing, and decorate with gel food coloring. Let icing set for 1-2 hours. Share with your sweetie – enjoy!
